What is Tui Na?

Tui Na is an ancient method of healing dating back over 2000 years. It is a powerful massage that works on joints as well as working on the flow of Qi - vital life energy.

If a persons' Qi becomes imbalanced problems begin to occur in the body. Tui Na can help restore this balance and therefore has a profound effect on all aspects of a person' well being - emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Tui Na works on the bodys' own energy systems giving our bodies the chance to heal themselves.

What happens during a treatment?

Firstly a few questions are asked so the practitioner can ascertain what treatment to give. While the patient is fully clothed, the practitioner applies pressure to specific points on the body during the massage to release any imbalances or blockages, effectively helping the patient to feel free of aches and pains.

It is a very vigorous massage and after the first session the patient may feel a little sore, but after two or three more treatments most people adjust to the deep pressure.

What is Indonesian Massage?

Indonesian massage is an oil-based deep tissue massage similar to ayurvedic massage and dates back almost as far as Chinese massage. The tecniques used are extremely therapeutic having an effect on the bodys' circulation and lymphatic system by releasing its own regenerative and self-healing powers. The strong pushing tecniques successfully break down tense and knotted tissue making it an ideal massage for sports injuries. After an hour of Indonesian massage you can expect to feel re-energized and invigorated!

Tui Na and Indonesian massage are wonderful treatments to receive as individual therapies and also compliment each other when used in combination.

They are both suitable for a wide range of conditions and injuries including:

  • Muscle sprain/strain
  • Tennis elbow
  • RSI
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Headaches/ migraines
  • IBS and more.

Although both treatments are contraindicated for someone with osteoporosis, for example, due to the rigorous nature of the massage, they are suitable for most people of most ages.

How long does a treatment last?

A treatment lasts about an hour and the number of treatments vary dependant upon the individuals needs.

After experiencing a prolapsed disc in my lower back, I found that a combination of both Tui Na and Indonesian massage were a huge help in keeping my back pain levels very low. The treatments also helped with my flexibility and the ability to keep treating others.

I qualified as a master practitioner of Tui Na in March 2005 after studying at the BODYHARMONICS Centre in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. By July 2006, I
had completed the Indonesian Massage course at the same college.
