TRANSFORMATIONS
Short-Term Counselling and
Long-Term Psychotherapy
I am a humanistic, holistic, Gestalt therapist and integrated within my approach is an understanding of contemporary Attachment and Developmental theories. I qualified for my European Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling in 2000. I work with adults, individually and in group settings.
I believe we are each born into the world with equal potential to be in rewarding contact with other human beings and lead a fulfilling, satisfying, creative life.
However, often during childhood and sometimes later on, something interrupts this process and a person can become stuck in fixed patterns and beliefs about themselves that get in the way. Gestalt therapy aims to raise awareness of and uncover how these patterns are still active and affecting a person’s life in the “here and now” of the present.
I offer a safe and supportive environment in which I hope to assist you find new and more creative ways to resolve your problems or any crises you are facing.
I live and practice as a psychotherapist in York. Over the past 10 years I have been working for voluntary organisations, largely with people who have endured abusive and traumatic childhoods. I have also worked extensively in the field of domestic abuse. During this time I have trained and become experienced in the management and treatment of the distressing symptoms of complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with particular reference to the difficulties experienced around self-harm, dissociative states, identity issues and personality disorders, all common problems for those who have experienced prolonged, repeated traumatic events.
As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy I am committed to working ethically and safely within the framework outlined in the BACP Code of Ethics. I receive regular, monthly clinical supervision with an accredited supervisor
I am also committed to ongoing further professional development and to this end, recently completed a series of group facilitation workshops. I am currently engaged in studying for an advanced training course in Embodied Relational Therapy and hope to qualify as a Body Psychotherapist in March 2008.
