- Advanced (Phase II) Student of Process Work
- Certificate in Family therapy
- Certificate in Transpersonal Psychotherapy
I am a psychotherapist, based in Bridlington. I have been in private practice for over 10 years. I have been looking for meaning behind things all my life. After graduating in philosophy I continued my search and gained certificates in family therapy and transpersonal psychotherapy. Continuing to follow my fascination with life’s meaning I began to study Process Work. I have now been a student of Process Work for 8 years and am in the final phase of my training. Process Work has put me in touch with the deepest meaning behind my dreaming and on my path of heart.
What is Process Work?
Process Work (also known as Process Orientated Psychology) was developed by Dr Arnold Mindell in the late 1960’s. It has roots in Jungian Psychology, Taoism and modern physics. Its methods reflect dedication to accurately following the way of nature, while bringing awareness to the patterns that structure our lives; including those parts that are normally unseen, unappreciated, disturbing or marginalized. The essence of Process Work is always to bring awareness to what is happening and trying to happen. This enables us to come into contact with those parts of ourselves of which we are unaware, or find disturbing and helps us to form some kind of relationship with them. By following signals as they appear; in speech, feelings, movement, dreams, relationships and the world, and allowing them to unfold and their parts of express themselves, their meaning becomes clear. In this way Process Work values people as they are, and helps them to become even more themselves.
How I Work
I find Process Work’s focus on discovering how disturbances can be meaningful, showing us a path of growth, a fascinating, joyous and above all, effective way to approach life and its problems. This underpins my understanding that therapy is not about “getting better”, but about our becoming more & more who we are, so that we can increasingly connect with life, ourselves and others with greater awareness, creativity and passion.
During a Process Work session I will focus attention on what is happening with you, your process knows what is best for you and if observed accurately the process will guide what wants to happen next. Consequently, my work has many appearances, may be long or short term, but always avoids interpretation and formulaic programmes. It may look like dance therapy, verbal psychotherapy, a business meeting or just a chat over a cup of tea! In practice this means working together for hour-long sessions, on a regular basis (usually weekly). All work is confidential.
Creativity and humour are important elements in my work. I have a flexible yet rigorous approach, emphatically optimistic in tone. I am particularly committed to empowering others and enabling them to live life more passionately.
If you feel Process Work can help you, please contact me to arrange a free initial meeting to explore any questions you might have.I am a member and abide by the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) Code of Ethics of which I am a member.
I am also a member of RS POP UK (Research Society for Process Oriented Psychology). I have regular supervision for my work.
