It's all in the mind!

I qualified as a clinical hypnotherapist over ten years ago after study with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis and after completing the required number of master classes, I was accepted as a full member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis. There was, and still is, no single body covering the practice of hypnosis in the UK, but after thorough research I was satisfied I had found a reputable body to train and support me.

The reason I originally wanted to learn hypnosis was my interest in past life regression; I wanted to be qualified to conduct such exploration in safety. I have since guided people singly and in groups into fascinating experiences. Whilst it is impossible to say categorically whether what they discover is a past life, a visit to the collective unconscious, or a vivid imagining, it is an experience like no other with its own sense of reality.

As I learned more techniques and theory and practised this art, I came to love and appreciate it for itself. Hypnosis is hard to define but pleasant to experience. It takes place in a delightfully relaxed state to accomplish inner change. Hypnosis is perhaps best known for going into the unconscious mind, where habits lie, and breaking the compulsion. I have had success over the years with smokers, insomniacs and nail biters, amongst others. As I used to be a law lecturer, worried about students suffering from exam nerves, I became interested in helping with exam nerves, performance activity and lack of confidence. An early challenge of mine was to help a young opera singer overcome her audition nerves. If you can remember how your voice once squeaked with nerves when you had to give a speech, imagine how much worse it is to sing through a tight throat. To her delight and mine, the singer came away from the audition with her first professional job.

With regard to health, the placebo effect is well known; a person swallows an inactive pill and feels better. Scientists tend to say it is “only” the placebo effect, yet if a person can be healed without active ingredients, shouldn’t that be hailed as one of the greatest wonders of all? I believe that by using a suitable visualisation a person can try to assist in his or her own healing in a similar way. I can work with you to find an image suitable to you, take you into hypnosis to work with it, and assist you to take that image away and work with it yourself. A friend of mine, on whom I practised when I was a student, learned to control her migraine attacks by dispersing a traffic jam in her imagination. It worked for her! Another image could work for you.

I also have an auracam system. This is a computer system designed to show the state of your energy body. It is an interesting experience to watch the picture change with thoughts, crystals or remedies. It is all part of my interest in the inner state of the human mind, body and spirit.
