Person centred counselling
I provide counselling for Anxiety, Depression, Employment, Relationships, Bereavement, Addiction, Illness, Personal Development, Change and many other issues depending on what my client wishes to work on or talk through.
I qualified as a counsellor at Keighley College in 2007 and I also have an MA in counselling from York St John University, which I finished in 2009. The subject of my research for my MA was session length in counselling and I try to ensure that my clients have the right amount of time to meet their needs in counselling.
I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP)
I offer person centred counselling at the Healing Clinic in York and I also have a private practice at home in Keighley.
Counselling
I aim to provide you with a safe and confidential place to think and talk about anything which may be worrying you. I will give you a chance to talk without being judged and what you say will not be repeated outside the counselling room.
You will have a chance to express how you are feeling and to find out what is important for you.
You know best what you need and counselling will give you the chance to find your own answers.
Confidentiality
As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I work to their code of ethics. I have regular clinical supervision but I will not disclose your identity to my supervisor or to anyone else.
The only exception would be if I felt you may be a danger to yourself or to another person and even then I would talk to you about this and ask your consent to refer you to additional or emergency help.
How many sessions will you need?
You are an individual with individual needs. At the first session we will talk about your needs. It may be that you will only wish to come a couple of times or you may find that you want to come for a few months. Counselling seems to work best when people can come regularly at the same time each week but you may find you prefer to come fortnightly or even monthly towards the end of your counselling. I am a flexible counsellor without rigid rules. I only ask that you keep the appointments that we make because if you cancel with less than 24 hours notice I will have to ask you to pay for your missed session.

We will work out together how often you will come and we will review our work as we go along. Clients usually know when they are ready to end their counselling or when they need to take a break and I respect this.

In my research I found that most people do prefer counselling sessions to last about an hour (60 minutes). However, there are some people who will find that shorter sessions of about 30 minutes or longer sessions of about 90 minutes suit them best.

Your first session with me at the Healing Clinic will be 60 minutes and we will plan future sessions to suit you. At the Healing Clinic I have to be aware of keeping to time because of the timetable of the Clinic but I will be as flexible as I can to meet your needs.

I do understand that it can be difficult to ring a counsellor or to come for counselling for the first time and you may wish to ask some questions and think about it for a while. When you are ready I will be happy to make an appointment for you at the Healing Clinic and we will take it from there.
