Emily Webber
I offer a range of therapies designed to de-stress and bring the body back into balance and can help with choosing a treatment most appropriate to your needs. I specialise in child well-being and can work with families on an individual basis.
I have been working as a complementary therapist since 2006, after spending eight years working as a journalist on regional and local newspapers.
Therapeutic Massage
This involves using relaxing Swedish massage techniques (for easing muscular problems, detoxing the body and improving circulation) and also deep-tissue massage techniques.
The emphasis in deep-tissue massage is to work on problem areas: lengthening and releasing tight or knotted muscles and helping restore mobility to joints.
Reflexology (ITEC diploma)
This relaxing treatment brings the body back into balance by manipulating reflex points on the feet.
The precursor of modern-day reflexology was discovered by an American ear, nose and throat consultant, Dr William Fitzgerald, who used it to anaesthetise his patients in the early 1900s. But the origins of the therapy can be traced back hundreds of years.
It works on the theory that different parts of the feet have a direct reflex reaction on corresponding parts of the body. By applying pressure to these reflexes you can benefit health.
Reflexology works best as a course of treatments, as it gently unravels health problems or imbalances. Good for digestive, reproductive, hormonal and respiratory disorders, among others.
Indian head massage (ITEC diploma)
This treatment involves massaging the back, head and face and also involves applying pressure to marma points on the head.
It is particularly good for mental fatigue, stress-induced headaches or migraines and improving the condition of the hair.
Reiki (level III)
A gentle therapy in which the therapist places their hands near the client's body and allows healing energy to flow through their hands. Clients may experience this as heat, tingling or just a deep-seated sense of well-being and relaxation.
No two treatments are alike and the energy usually goes to where it is most needed.
Good for soothing the mind, emotional problems and balancing the body's energy centres.
Child Well-being
I can also provide well-being workshops for children and have worked directly with nurseries, schools, the City of York Council and conferences in this capacity.
I have also trained in running relaxation sessions for adults with Sue Procter at the Orange Tree guest house in the North York Moors, where I have run regular relaxation sessions with Sue since 2007.
In 2006 I qualified as a Relax Kids teacher with Marneta Viegas, who devised the system.
Relax Kids sessions involves gradually relaxing children down in a fun environment and equipping them with tools to manage stress in their everyday lives.
