Newsletter Spring 2009

Hello.

It's spring – traditionally a time of renewed vitality and for making a fresh start. Early and pre-Christian festivals traditionally reflected what was going on in nature and their spring festivals marked a turning point in the New Year, when the winter heaviness was shaken off and all possibilities lay before you.

So now is a good time for taking stock, making plans for the year ahead and – I hate to mention this if housework doesn't fill you with joyous enthusiasm – but it's also supposed to be a good time for de cluttering your house and making room for fresh energy to come in.

If you're having trouble seeing sunnier times ahead, or worrying about navigating the rest of the recession storm, then get some help with Healing Clinic counsellors / life coaches Suzanne Chamoer and Julie Hindmarsh.

Also in this newsletter we have:

·         Book a workshop.

·         Lunch break treatments.

·         Out and About: where we've been in the community.

·         Green Matters.

CREATE YOUR OWN FLOWER PHARMACY

Discover the healing potential of native flowers with clinic director June Tranmer this summer.

Flower Essences can be used to bring about balance on an emotional and energetic level.

June will be showing you how to choose and create your own Flower Essences, including an introduction to the 38 original flower essences, how to create the most appropriate mix for you and how to make your own tinctures using water, flowers and the sun.

The day will also include a trip to explore the wild flowers of Clifton Ings, and promises to be lots of fun.

The Beginner's workshop runs on Saturday, June 20, from 10am to 4pm and is £60 (£50 concessions.) For more information email June at jtranmer@thehealingclinic.co.uk, or contact the Healing Clinic on Museum Street, York on (01904) 679868.

OUT AND ABOUT

We've been busy beetling around York, providing mini treatments to various groups as part of our on-going Outreach programme.

We recently provided hand massages to refugees and volunteer workers with Refugee Action York, and also paid a visit to mental health organisation MIND, to provide mini treatments.

Therapists also volunteered to represent the clinic at the Opportunities Fair run by the Council for Voluntary Services (CVS) at Priory Street in York. The aim was to show students with learning difficulties and disabilities the opportunities available to them within the complementary health field and how these therapies can help.

We're also now working with the North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership (NYBEP), which forge’s links between businesses and schools, to show how subjects such as science relate directly to the wider world.

At the recent Discovery Day, held at the National Railway Museum, aromatherapist Iain Keegan, wafted essential oils beneath the noses of visitors while talking about the chemistry behind aromatherapy, while chiropractor Sally Mitcham's model of a plastic spine provided endless fascination for children. There was also plenty of other information on hand for visitors.

We also provided hand massages at York's Venturefest, a business exhibition, which this year attracted, more than 2,000 delegates.

GREEN MATTERS

The Healing Clinic recently joined York's Green Business Club and has already made headway cutting down its carbon footprint. After monitoring our electrical appliances with a Smart Meter from York Central Library (something available to any York resident) we have got rid of some of our heavy electrical-use appliances and put in several 'Savaplugs'.

We've also managed to halve the amount of rubbish being sent to landfill by signing up to recycling firm Yorwaste: three or four bags of renewable materials are now going to them every week, rather than landfill. Not bad.
