Donald is a Member of the Unified Register of Herbal Practitioners (URHP), a herbal practitioners association affiliated to the European Herbal and Traditional Practitioners Association (EHTPA). URHP herbalists employ traditional vitalistic knowledge and modern scientific understanding in their assessment of patients and selection of remedies.
Traditional Herbalism involves an in depth assessment of your health imbalance and the formulation of a unique prescription in each case. Herbal medicines are designed, not only to alleviate immediate symptoms but to encourage your body to restore the balance of innate heat, moisture and tension so essential for health, whilst supporting your core vitality. You will also be supported in appropriate changes to dietary habits and lifestyle – successful herbal treatment requires a holistic approach.
As a traditional herbalist with more than 25 years’ experience in clinical practice. In his tailor-made herbal medicines, Donald uses an eclectic range of herbs from across the world, though his primary focus is on the Western Herbal tradition, using local and organic plant material as much as possible.
Qualifying in 1989 from the School of Herbal Medicine/Phytotherapy, Donald enhanced his practice with an MSc Herbal Medicine from the Scottish School of Herbal medicine in 2003. He has taught Herbal Medicine on degree programmes in Glasgow, Preston and Leeds, and is a Senior Lecturer at Lincoln College where he has taught on the BSc Herbal medicine course since 2005.
